Hum, I suppose you've a point. A difference in opinion and pedantics, I think. [not the argument, but the actual, earnest answer to feeling differently.] You'll have to tell me if what makes me interesting is also surprising, in that case.
[flirting is all about rapport, in Nimah's very narrow view, and Keita's earnest, gently rigid way strikes more of a chord with them than it might first appear.]
Good, good. I could hardly bring myself to stop you elsewise. [this is a plain joke—there is a considerable amount about Nimah that suggests the sort of hypercompetence they possess, from the simplicity of each movement, the seemingly utter ignorance of all the negatives of their weaknesses. and though there's always a chance that they've fallen prey to their own instincts, they do suspect there's not a particular underestimation of his companion.
which is, naturally, not to say that they don't think he could be dangerous. everyone, no matter how kind and warm, can be dangerous. but those facts are unimportant in the observance of ceremony, and they lapse into comfortable quiet while the ceremony moves on. the softest noises feel so comforting, shared so many times in Nimah's long life, and even if it's been a good while since the last proper tea ceremony, it still feels nostalgic.]
Of course. There's fairly little that I am wont to keep to myself, when it comes to what I do. And—to be clear, I am used to teaching much of this to newly Awakened individuals, so please feel free to interrupt me if you have any questions. I can assure you that you won't be a bother.
[besides, at least with Keita they're probably not going to end up deflecting an attack like they often did from impatient newcomers.]
To begin with the most recent question: what we call Awakened are humans who have undergone a physiological change, a connection to some form of elemental or metaphysical power. I imagine that our worlds differ at least somewhat in the understanding of such abilities, even if we occupy a planet of the same name, with the same locations—for us, most humans will live out their lives without any understanding of the supernatural at all. It's considered fantastical, fictional, as with the study of many myths and legends—and by nature, the average human could never refute this fact. A kami could stand before them in their radiance, and still they would observe nothing.
At our most basic, Awakened, once we reach this point of catalyst, gain the ability to see beyond that veil of ignorance. The world changes instantaneously, becoming louder, more full of life. Naturally, this also means that our lives will tend to change, as the world of humans and that of kami, youkai, and other supernatural creatures are often impossible to separate once you've lost the ability to be blind to them. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
[they pause to let him absorb that information, resting hands in their lap.]
[ And he certainly does see it as a sign of affection that Rinne is willing to do this with him. Whether or not Rinne means it to be so, there's a level of trust, of affection required in order to put himself in this position—Rinne, despite being a brat most of the time, is one of the few people Keita does feel that he can trust entirely. ]
I leave myself in your very capable hands.
[ So as the visions of being tied up and edged until he cries dance in the back of his mind, Keita ducks down to press his own lips to Rinne's neck, starting low at his collarbone and then working his way up along the line of his throat. He doesn't try to kiss Rinne on the mouth—they aren't married just yet, after all—but he does let himself relax a little into Rinne's touch, on his lap, settling himself comfortably however Rinne guides him. ]
He does sound like your brother, after all. [ There's a little light teasing there, tentative, affectionate. Keita isn't so used to joking around like this, but he thinks that Rinne of all people might be able to understand it when he does. ] I still have a hard time imagining anyone being a more captivating performer than you are, but I suppose I'll take your word for it.
[ Keita leans against Rinne's shoulder, content, and reaches up to tug at a small piece of the hair that flops over his forehead. Rinne is, of course, gorgeous and talented and hard not to look at; anyone who could hold a candle to him would need to be all those things and more. ]
I had five brothers. [ Keita's never told anyone this before. Rinne, as it turns out, gets a lot of his firsts. ] Each of them louder and more self-sure than the last, although none of them had the looks to make it as an idol.
finally slams this down here
